April 27th Education Awareness Basketball Tournament @ GMHS

Good Morning All,

Last year we came together and stood 100 people strong as we educated our teens on ways to get into college.  This year we want to make it even better.  I really need LOTS of help this year.  Basketball 4 L.Y.F.E. presents RISE to the Challenge Tournament at Great Mills High on April 27th 2013 at 10:00.  The first game will be SMCPS (St. Mary's County Public Schools) vs NAVY Game at 11:00am, followed by a high school all star game, and lastly a RISE to the Challenge game (All ages). The event is to raise education awareness in the tri-county area, promote post high school options, and highlight the talents of our young basketball players while stressing the importance of pursuing a higher education.  There will be community partners, college recruiters and military recruiters providing next step options for students after high school.  I am gathering 48 very talented players, Navy soldiers and 12 SMCPS employees to participate.  The high school and college players will benefit from leaders, like you, just being there. One of our goals is to stand 300 men/women strong at halftime of the RISE TO THE CHALLENGE game, which starts at 2:00, as the community forms a circle of support for our young people and remember those who have sacrificed for our community.  Join us. There will also be other community leaders, military personnel, college coaches and college students there to help encourage our young people to prepare for life after college and helping them with financial aid, college, SAT prep and more.  Please pass the word to your staff, friends and/or family that would like to attend. If you know of any young people that could benefit from playing and/or coming out to the event let us know.  We have a few spots available on the rosters for talented players, and two more coaching spots to fill.  If you would like to get involved please send a response email and I will contact you at my earliest convenience, or feel free to call me for more details.

I know you all are EXTREMELY busy, so if you can not make it here are other important ways you can get involved:

-SPREAD THE WORD
-recruit a staff member to play and represent your school
-become a sponsor
-donations for - basketball equipment, jerseys, t-shirts, etc.
-become a mentor
-setting up tables about your organization at events
-come out to the games
-Volunteer to assist families with Financial Aid counseling, and college application prep
-Sign up for clean up or set-up
-become a partner
-SPREAD THE WORD

We NEED your support because you all are the life support for our young people on and off the court.  I have emailed you and others that I know are difference makers.  I challenge you to do the same.

Thanks,
Jeff "Pee-Wee" Burrell
